Paul McGee has been active in the insurance and reinsurance industry for 50 years, over 40 of which have been spent in the reinsurance field. Mr. McGee began in 1958 with the Commercial Union Insurance Company. He progressed through the ranks within the casualty organization and, in February of 1966, joined the newly formed Professional Reinsurance Department of the Employers Group (now known as One Beacon). His duties included the production and underwriting of treaty Reinsurance business through intermediaries.
In 1975, he became Senior Vice President of Boston Reinsurance Corporation where his responsibilities included the production and underwriting of both domestic and international treaty reinsurance placed through intermediaries. These responsibilities also included the negotiation and placement of ceded reinsurance.
In 1982, he established Paul J. McGee Associates where, as President, his responsibilities included oversight of production, underwriting, accounting, claims handling of assumed business plus negotiation and placement of ceded reinsurance.
Starting in 1991, Paul became President of Tremont Reinsurance Management Co. to provide consulting services to insurance and reinsurance companies, and regulators. This service included, but was not limited to, reinsurance audits, contract review, reinsurance placement advice and regulatory related examinations.
From 1995 to 2004, Mr. McGee worked with the Horizon Management Group, a subsidiary of the Hartford Insurance Group, where his duties included overseeing the scheduling and conduct of on-site audits of ceding companies and providing expert counseling and assistance to claims, accounting and legal personnel in the conduct of daily affairs. In addition, he worked closely with Counsel in providing expert positions on matters in dispute through arbitration or litigation and advising claims personnel on reinsurance coverage issues.
Mr. McGee has extensive service to the insurance industry: he is Past National Director and former Chairman of the National CPCU Society’s Reinsurance Section. He is a Past President of the Boston Chapter of CPCU and Past President of the Insurance Institute of Northeastern University.
Mr. McGee is a graduate of the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School and has been named as Reinsurance Specialist by the Division of Insurance, Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He lectures on Reinsurance and Insurance matters at the Insurance Library Association of Boston and he is a director, and member of the Audit Committee for United Casualty and Surety Insurance Company.
Presently, Mr. McGee, CPCU, ARe is an ARIAS-U.S. certified arbitrator and serves as an independent consultant to the reinsurance industry.
