John A. Dore has been in the property and casualty industry since 1974, where he began his underwriting career at a special risk unit of Crum & Forster. He was one of the founding members of Chicago Underwriting Group, the professional liability and D & O MGA for Old Republic. In 1986, Mr. Dore joined Aon’s property and casualty insurer as President. In 1990, Mr. Dore joined a mid sized reinsurer funded by 150 financial institutions. This public company was taken private by management and a private and eventually sold to a large insurance holding company. In 2000, he joined American Country Holdings, Inc. as President and CEO of this NASDAQ listed insurance holding company. The company was sold in 2002.
In 2003, Mr. Dore started Sheridan Ridge Advisers LLC as an insurance and reinsurance consulting firm. He has acted as a party appointed arbitrator, an umpire and an expert witness in many arbitration and litigation proceedings. These disputes have included insurance/reinsurance disputes, insurance company/MGU disputes and insurance company/insured disputes. Additionally, Mr. Dore has performed due diligence work on behalf of several private equity firms.
Mr. Dore has a B.A. from Yale University (1973), an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Business (1978) and Certificate of Completion in Mediation, DePaul University College of Law (2007).
Mr. Dore has experience in many areas, including reinsurance, professional liability, directors and officers liability, managing general agencies, underwriting, commutations, claims management, third party administrators, reinsurance intermediaries, Lloyd’s & London market, excess & surplus lines, relationships with insurance regulators, workers compensation and financial and regulatory issues.
He is presently a director of several companies, including an insurance company and insurance company holding company.
Mr. Dore is listed as a certified arbitrator, mediator and umpire by ARIAS-US.
